Julian is an independent database consultant specialising in Oracle performance tuning and is based in England. He generally works for clients in the UK and Europe. He is a regular presenter at conferences and seminars in the UK, Europe and USA. A number of his recent presentations can be downloaded from his site. In December 2008 he became a director of the UK Oracle User Group. Prior to this he was Chair of the UKOUG RAC and HA Special Interest Group (UKOUG RAC & HA SIG) for five years. This group currently meets three times a year in London, the Thames Valley and the Midlands. He is a co-author with Steve Shaw of Intel Corporation of Pro Oracle Database 10g RAC on Linux which was published in August 2006 by Apress. GoalThe goal of the seminar is to assist RAC users in planning their future database strategy.
The seminar aims to provide delegates with an understanding of the new features in Oracle 11g Release 2 affecting RAC and ASM. In order to provide suitable context, the seminar will also review common deployment models and practices in Oracle 10g Release 2 and new features introduced in Oracle 11g Release 1.
AudienceThe seminar is aimed at existing Oracle users running Oracle 10g Release 2 or earlier. Basic knowledge of RAC/ASM concepts is assumed.
SessionsThe proposed session content is as follows. Please note that Oracle 11g Release 2 is still under NDA and therefore I cannot disclose information specific to this release.
Session 1 (90 minutes)This session will review how RAC and ASM are currently deployed by customers. Concentrating on Oracle 10.2 we will discuss:
Common RAC architectures Recent Linux enhancements Recommended best practices Common bugs and issues Troubleshooting
Session 2 (90 minutes)In this session we will review new database features introduced in Oracle 11g Release 1 and Oracle 11g Release 2.
Oracle 11g Release 1 features discussed will include:
Automatic Diagnostic Repository (ADR) Automatic Memory Management Optimizer Statistics Management enhancements SQL Plan Management Partitioning enhancements ASM enhancements Oracle SecureFiles Result Cache Real Application Tuning (RAT) Active Data Guard
Oracle 11g Release 2 new features discussed will include: Columnar Compression Edition Based Redefinition Session 3 (90 minutes)
This session will discuss Oracle 11g Release 2 in a clustered environment covering:
Grid Infrastructure Clusterware and ASM Clusterware processes (OHASD etc) Cluster Time Synchronization Service (CTSS) Grid Plug and Play (GPnP) Grid Naming Service (GNS) Multicast Name Resolution (mDNS) Single Client Access Name (SCAN) Management Styles - Administrator Managed versus Policy-Managed Server Pools Installation Grid Infrastructure RDBMS Software Installation Database Creation Session 4 (90 minutes)
This session will cover management and administration of Oracle 11g Release 2 including:

The session will end with approximately 30 minutes for Q&A and general discussion of topics covered during the seminar. |
